Blue tint tape with design/artwork by Mariana Mendoza. Miami-based Las Nubes (formerly Smvt) transmute their love of 90s alt-rock into songs that are “lo-fi and catchy as hell.” Their forthcoming full-length debut is a tight 9 tracks/32 minutes of anamorphic, distorted bliss. The three-piece began in 2014 as guitarist and vocalist Ale Campos’ solo project, before incorporating the talents of bassist Nina Carolina and drummer Emile Milgrim.
The trio’s instrumentation transitions from melancholy dream pop to blistering punk as easily as their lyrics do from English to Spanish. The Miami New Times described their first demos as “heavy, loud punk rock that does not prepare you for their next two quieter, though still-distorted collections.” Campos’ melodic vocals and capricious time signatures are undergirded by the steady dynamism of Carolina and Milgrim’s potent rhythm section. These South Florida stalwarts have opened for the likes of Shonen Knife, Casket Girls, Sheer Mag, Institute, Jens Lekman, and Torche. The album, SMVT, arrives June 14th, 2019 from Sweat Records Records.
